Luis Taboada Antelo, PI.

I am a Tenured Scientist at the IIM-CSIC. I hold a degree in Chemical Engineering (2001) from USC and a PhD in the same field (2008) from the University of Vigo. My research interests are the design of both optimal control profiles/ policies to new scenarios/cases in different processes of the food industry as well as in the optimal selection of existing processing routes integrating both criterion (economic and environmental) to give response to the variety/volume of generated/available of different input bio side-streams (like fishing by-products or previously discarded biomass) while improving the final quality of the desired products as well under the novel concept we defined of Marine Biorefinery. Recently, I am also focused on thr application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) innovations to marine resources management, mainly on their use on the automatic, real-time quantification and identification of the total catch on-board fishing vessels.

Carla Daniela Lopes Gonçalves, Marie-Curie Postdoctoral Researcher

I hold an Integrated Master Degree in Biological Engineering from the University of Minho – with specialization on Environmental Technologies – and I received my PhD in Food Science and Technology from the University of Vigo. My PhD was focused on the experimental design of marine biomass valorization processes, kinetic modeling based on artificial neural networks and optimization and integration methods based on environmental impact indicators. I am currently a postdoctoral researcher under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Individual Fellowships, and my main research area is the sustainability assessment, applying environmental management tools such as the life-cycle analysis (LCA), ecological footprint (EF) and risk assessment (RA), in the field of biotechnology and marine processes.

I am a Computer Science Engineer who has developed modules and applications mainly with Python and Web Technologies. I have been working with Odoo for seven years, a suite of business management software that covers all the functionalities that a company needs. Furthermore, I have been collaborating with projects at the Marine Research Institute, such as AtlantOS or PESCANDO4.0. I am currently developing a piece of software to build a bridge, fetch data from specific sources like fishing electronic logbooks and iObserver Electronic Monitoring system, and publish it in a blockchain-based platform to allow to trace fish lots and fish quality, throughout the entire value chain.

I am a computer scientist. I have been working on Electronic Monitoring in fisheries since 2015: initially with Geographic Information Systems and catch management tools on board commercial ships and currently as machine learning research engineer in the development of image recognition systems with Deep Learning for the automatic identification and quantification of total fishing catches.

I am a marine biologist specialized in fisheries research. I worked for several years as a fisheries scientist, focused on discards, on board Spanish trawlers and gillnet vessels. I am currently working on Electronic Monitoring (EM) systems that integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) on fishing vessels for fisheries management and scientific purposes mainly, taking samples and pictures on board from a variety of commercial fish species throughout the EM system camera, located on the conveyor belt, as well as supervising the total catches fish flow through the conveyor belt and the imagery obtained for AI algorithms training.
